SDN is set to play a leading role in delivering the next phase of the Future Apprenticeships programme, with the aim of preparing thousands of apprenticeship staff for the reforms and start delivering the new standards.
The Education and Training Foundation (ETF) has now commissioned the second phase of the Future Apprenticeships programme, led by the Association of Employment and Learning Providers (AELP), featuring an intense programme of workshops, online seminars and resources over the next nine months.
SDN will be delivering two large-scale strands, focusing on organisational action planning and change management, and occupational action planning for the new standards. SDN will also be updating the Future Apprenticeships toolkit with the latest policy and provider experience.
Colin Bentwood, Managing Director of SDN, said:
“We are really excited to again be delivering key strands of the Future Apprenticeships programme. SDN has been at the forefront of the reforms – working closely with employer groups developing many of the new standards and assessment plans. Our work has seen us engage with thousands of apprenticeship staff from providers up and down the country, giving us a unique insight into transition models, effective practice and what providers need to do to prepare for the new standards. We are keen to build on this intelligence and share it far and wide to help providers thrive in the new apprenticeship landscape.”
The second phase of the programme will also offer support with employer engagement and business development strategies. A short animated video can be viewed here, giving an overview of the full range of support available.
In in a recent ETF press release, Jenny Williams, ETF Director of VET, said:
“The Foundation is committed to supporting the sector to deliver high quality apprenticeships. Professional development of the vocational education and training workforce holds the key to raising quality, and improving outcomes for both apprentices and employers. The Future Apprenticeships programme is all about supporting staff to plan for and deliver the new apprenticeship standards, and helping colleges and providers develop strategic employer engagement strategies to respond to the new employer-led context.”
Providers can now sign-up to workshop packages and other support on the Future Apprenticeships portal, which will be updated regularly as activities progress.

About the Future Apprenticeships programme
The first phase of the Future Apprenticeships programme supported 3,000 individuals from 638 organisations across the sector. It was highly successful, helping providers to tackle the issues involved in preparing to deliver the new apprenticeship standards. The second phase focuses on delivering new standards in particular occupations, building new and develop existing relationships with employers, and understanding the systems and processes necessary to deliver high quality apprenticeships. The programme is funded by the Education and Training Foundation and led by the Association of Employment and Learning Providers. More information can be found here.
