Stretching and challenging each apprentice to go further makes a big difference to the quality of the apprentice’s learning and their success at end-point assessment. It’s something Ofsted want to see too.
So how can we do this well? How and when should we build stretch and challenge activities, and how do we avoid them simply being an optional ‘add on’?
In this practical CPD session, curriculum specialist Chris Cherry will take you through:
- Stretch and challenge and its link to high quality outcomes for apprentices
– Initial assessment and how to ensure it is used to inform stretch and challenge - When and how you might use stretch and challenge activities
- Embedding stretch and challenge into your curriculum design and progress reviews
- Setting effective and measurable stretch targets that motivate apprentices to go further
- Bringing employers in to support stretch activities on-the-job
- Using stretch and challenge as a preparation tool for EPA

“Breaking down the KSB’s and how the curriculum forms the ILP was a key learning point. Excellent session and also enjoyed the pre-training recording.”
– Orange Moon Training
“I’ve been trawling the internet and asked FE colleagues about curriculum design and found nothing useful. This is just the ticket. Very engaging, informative and fun to listen to. I’ve learned more in the first 15 minutes than the previous 15 years.”
“Very informative and helpful”
